Lose That Stomach Fat

How do we lose stomach fat? Before we answer that question, let us first clear up some common beliefs that are not entirely true. Some people actually think that by exercising a body part, the fat will disappear from that body part. An example of this is the person who does hundreds of sit-ups a day and expects to see their belly fat disappear. If you are not building muscle, training a group of muscles can have a slimming effect because the muscles pull in the fat making you look a little slimmer. You are not reducing fat in that area, however, and further exercising may build muscle under the fat which will make you appear fatter.

So if doing exercises that work out our stomach muscles doesn’t make us lose stomach fat, what does work? The answer is simple. By following a diet and losing weight, we will lose the fat on our stomachs. Different people have different fat distributions on their bodies. The problem with people who have excess belly fat is they are more prone to heart attacks and strokes. If those excess pounds get deposited around your middle, you need to be more vigilant than the average person who’s body distributes the fat evenly.

Does that mean we don’t advocate sit-ups and crunches as part of your exercise routine? Of course not. As we said before, although doing lots of exercises involving our midsection does not directly make us lose stomach fat, it helps us lose fat by burning calories. A side benefit is strong stomach muscles help us look slimmer and also help alleviate lower back problems.
